The 2nd Talk Giveaway, $100 VISA Gift Card
January 22nd, 2013
;
There I was, minding my own business, cooking pepperoni pasta for nineteen people on New Year’s Day, when I suddenly morphed into Albert Brooks trying to anchor the weekend news in Broadcast News. I was suddenly drenched with flop sweat and wished I were on a TV set where my minions could powder my face and blow dry my armpits. It was hot flash central. Oh, thank you, perimenopause, you cruel mistress. By the time I served dinner I was wearing nothing but my underwear and a limp smile.
Like a person who carries an EPI pen because she’s deathly allergic to bees, I now carry Poise Roll-On Cooling Gel because I’m deathly allergic to public humiliation and a wet bra. I became familiar with the product the first time Poise asked me to run a giveaway on my site. I don’t do very many giveaways, but I loved Poise brand’s take on The 2nd Talk. We’re all familiar with the 1st Talk, which happens when girls hit puberty, but I loved the idea that The 2nd Talk should happen when we hit menopause.
Since getting the Roll-On Cooling Gel, I’ve only had to use it twice, once inexplicably while watching Daniel Craig in Skyfall (well, perhaps that was explicable) and a second time while cleaning the kitty litter box (which I later explained to my husband is the reason he should be solely responsible for that job). I did as instructed, squeezing the tube as I rolled the gel on my neck and chest. (The roller is cool metal.) Texture’s an issue for me, so I was happy the gel wasn’t sticky. Applying it to my body made me feel the way I feel when I pop a mint in my mouth: instantly fresh.
So far I’ve only had to contend with hot flashes. But here’s a smorgasbord of other menopausal symptoms to freak you out:

While Poise won’t address some of these changes… (wait, which changes are those? I can’t seem to remember…oh yes, short-term memory loss!), it does have products for several of them: Body Cooling Towelettes that offer instant cooling and refreshment. Personal Lubricant designed to enhance your intimate experience (which is code for SEX). Panty Fresheners that have a fresh and clean scent that lasts up to four hours (I’m certain I’ll never need that), and Feminine Wash to provide daily freshness with a unique formulation that is PH balanced for your intimate area (aka your lady garden).

Uh, confidently? Wine helps. It also seems to trigger the hot flashes, but they don’t bother me as much.
I am approaching life’s changes with some concern, but I am eating right, getting a bit of exercise, really trying to take care of myself, to make the change easier.

I am a slave to hormone therapy. Specifically, Vivelle patches. I really could not live without them. When I do not use them my hot flashes are so bad that I throw up. So, needless to say, I would rather use them than not.
After night sweats kept waking my up several times a night, every night for three weeks, I reluctantly went with the HRT. Can’t wait to get off the pills. As for how I am going forward confidently? Since when have I ever done anything with confidence? I am moving forward with my usual trademark neuroticism and insanity. And a really good sweater because I keep getting chills when the temp goes below 75 degrees.
I don’t know if I AM approaching life’s changes confidently. It’s not like anyone has anything good to say about it. I’m already sweaty and absent minded. Who will want to be my friend when i have arm pit stains and can’t remember who I am?
I’m afraid of it and I admire all of you ladies who are approaching it with confidence.

I like to get things out of the way early, so I left that change in the dust several years ago(except for that pesky extra weight). I’m acting as the canary in the coal mine for the friends that are following behind me.

I did not do anything different, basically ignored it! Glad it is over.
I don’t have night sweats or PMS but I do have hot flashes. I could be cold to the touch but internally I’m on fire. Yeah, good times.
I did not do anything different, basically ignored it. Glad it is over!
I just hope to take it a day at a time.

I’ll figure it out when it happens. My friend calls them power surges instead of hot flashes.

I remember that I’m hardly alone in this aging process, and then decide to try and age as gracefully as possible, rather than resent it.
I remember that I’m not the only one who is aging, and then decide that I will try to do this gracefully, rather than resent it.
I try to look at the bright side – I appreciate the fact I don;t have a monthly cycle to deal with (which became harder as I got older) and my fibroids are finally gone!

My biggest life change right now is having my first child (so no menopause just yet!)! I’m finding confidence in preparing for that by taking time to research it and work through my feelings/fears beforehand, so that when the time comes, I’ll (hopefully) be more ready for it!

I’m just taking it one day at a time – and hoping that my symptoms aren’t as bad as my moms were!
I have not had an easy time of it. I am still going through it. I have contacted my doctor regarding different issues and each time she says that what I am experiencing seems to be a symptom of perimenopause with menopause coming on. Some days are good and others really not so good. I just have to take it as it comes. I am not taking medication due to a health issue (unrelated) so I have to do things naturally. I am taking it as it comes.
I approach life challenges confidently with daily prayer and thanks

Well, it’s a phrase we women have to go through. Mind as well be prepared and learn them all in advance!
I am approaching life’s changes confidently by thinking positively. It might be easier said than done. But I’m trying my best.

I am trying to have a good attitude about it and create some laughs along the way. I am already giving my husband a hard time about it approaching since I am 40 and pregnant! Thank goodness for companies like Poise taking an interest in this and creating products for us to get through it!
Exercise and healthy foods
Haven ‘t gotten to menopause yet – will take it one day at a time. Thanks for all the info about products that help out!
I’m hoping I’m done with the hot flashes, but I sure wish this product was out when I was having them. I would had the ac turned down, ceiling fan on and a stand up fan on me. Hot flashes are miserable.

I keep my weight in check, exercise regularly and watch the types of foods I put into my body.
I keep up with daily exercises and have balanced meals to prepare for life’s changes.

I bought some evening primrose oil but have yet to try it. They sit there with the rest of my vitamins that I forget to take.
Talking to my mom gives me confidence, because she’s been through changes and always have good advice. Reading stories on poise would help too.

I am taking vitamins (especially vitamin D) to help with mood changes and I go for acupuncture every once in a while to help with night sweats.
I am approaching life’s changes with a postive attitude and I am eating right, getting some exercise, taking vitamins and trying to get enough sleep to make the change easier.

I’m not there yet, but I’m already starting to think about it since my mom had early menopause. Nice to see that there will be products to use!
I am accepting that change is a way of life, good or bad. We must embrace change and not try and fight it. That is the attitude I am trying to take anyway!

I approach life’s changes the same way I approach a strange dog. If it’s friendly or benign, I’ll pet it or walk by. If it attacks, I’ll defend with my walking stick.

i am keeping a positive attitude in that once i get through it no more monthly visitor
I’ve already passed one big milestone, menopause, and because I was prepared in advance it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I firmly believe in finding information in advance whenever possible and that allows me to be confident to face change.
To feel confident I try to keep my skin healthy looking by using lots of moisturizer and sunscreen.
Having clear goals and keeping a positive attitude has helped me
Dealing with changes is definitely hard but having a good support network is helpful
I make sure that I take baby steps towards the changes that I need to make
Focusing on the positive
I’ve already had the worst of it but still have hot flashes so I might try the cooling gel.
